In this book Absolutely True Story of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie how do you think it feels to be trapped or be beaten down just for being yourself. Everyone has their ups and downs, but Arnold the main character of the book he's never really experienced the ups in life only the downs in it. Right when he thinks that everything is gonna be okay the things that he holds so dear to his heart are taken away bit by bit in the most painful way possible, but somehow he always seems to make it using art. Every evil wound that had tainted his heart in the past or present was expressed using a pencil and piece of paper. You can tell a lot based on how Arnold draws you as a person and how he really sees you as a person. For example his friend Rowdy he draw him as if he was a super hero because he's one of the best things that ever happened to him in his life and he was always that was there to protect him. Another example of how his drawings express his emotions is when Arnold draw himself he always finds a way to make himself of a person than everyone else. This shows that Arnold is depressed in some sort of way and is constantly doubting himself all because of the way other treat him as a person. This is how Arnold's drawing reveal a story of his emotions

Part-Time Indian
Have you ever heard the saying a little bit goes a long way, well even more goes an even longer way. When reading Absolutely True Story of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie it helped me open up my eye’s and feel sympathy toward the main character Arnold who’s going through a tough time in his life. Arnold is a poor Indian kid living on a broken down reservation with his loving mother, drunken father, grandma, and rat mole sister. He was constantly bullied and then eventually had enough and was suspended from school for breaking a teacher’s nose, but to be honest that was the best thing that he could have done for himself. From there his journey started and he finally met people that were willing to give him the big push that he needed. This book is a must read for struggling teenagers because it will change your life.
This story shows the reader that their not alone because there are other people in this world going through different or similar changes that are seeking the same help. Arnold is constantly fighting for everything he’s ever wanted for himself and every time it seemed like his life was good and like he could let his guard down something was always thrown in his face, and it was always something that he couldn’t stop from happening. There’s a lot of things that people can’t stop from happening which can negatively affect their lives which is why this book is so important because it can bring something positive into somebodies life. This book is can only take you so far, but it puts you on a good track which is what leads to that big positive push in life. One really important direct quote from the book is “ It sucks to be poor, and it sucks to feel that you somehow deserve to be poor. You start believing that you're poor because you're stupid and ugly. And then you start believing that you're stupid and ugly because you're Indian. And because you're Indian you start believing you're destined to be poor. It's an ugly circle and there's nothing you can do about it.” This shows that in some point of his life that he was really doubting himself because he had already given up, but then decided to fight again, but still doubts himself in the process.
Towards the end of the story the main character Arnold finally realizes there are people that care about him and that he doesn't have to keep relying on himself for everything because he has people to support in life no matter what the risk because to him that was his place to return to. This was Arnold’s big push finding people who cared about him and finding a better life for him and his family. The effect that this book can have on teenagers going through a hard time right now who haven't seen the better side to life and don't think that there's any hope left for themselves, this book can be that guidance because it really has the power to change the perspective that they have on their lives and the way that they think about themselves as individuals. .
